Columbia University’s Climate School, in partnership with Columbia Business School is offering a new Master of Science (MSc) degree program for those who want to lead efforts that take on climate change through effective investing. This one-year, full-time, STEM-designated professional degree provides emerging and established professionals seeking leadership roles in the climate finance sector tools to address new models of financial risk analysis. With a cross-disciplinary curriculum, experiential projects, and access to leading faculty, graduates will be equipped to lead in sustainable finance, climate risk assessment and investment strategy

The 39-credit MS in Climate Finance combines leading-edge climate science with the latest financial management tools. Curriculum The curriculum, which is currently prepared for Fall 2026 admission:
• Fundamentals of climate science and assessment of risks
• Finance for sustainability and sovereign finance
• Project finance and investment principles
• Energy transition and infrastructure finance
• Disclosure standards and scenario analysis
• International climate finance and nature-based solutions
• Impact investing and climate-tech finance
This holistic approach of training students on how to mobilize capital for mitigation and adaptation, turn climate data into business decisions, and structure investments that build toward a low-carbon future. Whether you are a finance expert, climate action entrepreneur or beginner, we will leave you with the quantitative skills and strategic insights needed to make meaningful impact.
Eligibility
Candidates from other fields of discipline — finance, climate science and environmental policy etc. are welcome to apply. Although there isn’t a required undergraduate major, typical successful applicants have:
• Proficient in quant and analytical skills
Demonstrated interest in climate finance
• Previous work or internship experience (preferred, though not required)
• Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
• Working in a spirit of collaboration for interprofessional team working
Applicants are evaluated based on academic merit, professional experience, and demonstrated commitment to climate change mitigation - as well as the relevance of their desired study programme to their long-term career aspirations.
